Sometimes When I Look at You
Daily Toast writing prompt May 9, 2013 “Sometimes when I look at you, I’m disgusted”
Sometimes I Look at You
Sometimes when I look at you, I’m disgusted
Are you able to see what I see?
The sin and mire of so many years
Spent in self-righteous vanity
Sometimes when I look at you, I’m afraid
Is this who I’ll be, is this who I am?
Hopes and dreams gone; vanished
Floating down in the pool of the damned?
Sometimes when I look at you, I smile
The memories like droplets of dew
Songs of the younger years, singing to me
Though scattered, their treasures renew
Sometimes when I look at you, I cringe
The fear of becoming what I most of all fear
Yet the shadows of inheritance lie straight ahead
Seeds sown then, now hopelessly near
Sometimes when I look at you, I know
That battles fought, are out of my hands
That faith must come in to rescue my fate
That life is as my God commands
Sometimes I look at you and I pray
That the you that I know won’t prevail
That my prayers and pleas through all the years
In the Master’s hands, never can fail
Very powerful and inspiring. Beautiful job!

I love this poem, it is so fresh, so inspiring. You are a beautiful writer, what breaks my heart is the reason for such sad poems

Thank you Lee.. It is in the depths of our experience that we can draw poetry; whether it be love, broken heart, regret, joy, faith, despair, etc.
It is from these places – the vulnerable ones, that I can write the best, being honest with myself and anyone who reads it.
Thanks again,
Easter
